The Next Hero
Once upon a time, there was an island named “Cali.” They have a
tradition that when a boy came of age he would be sent to hunt for something in
the dark forest. One year a boy named Smith turned fifteen. The tribe’s leader
knew how strong Smith was, so he assigned a difficult task. He had to hunt and
kill a black bear. This was a very hard mission because the bears are much
bigger than most of the men. Before he started, he imagined all the things that
may happen in the forest. Although, it was very dangerous, Smith was still very
excited and dreamed of being the best and strongest man. On the first hunting
day, he felt a little scared but mostly excited. At the beginning of the
ceremony, there were a lot of people there to watch him walk into the forest.
He had trained for this ritual, so he had the
knowledge about what to eat to survive in the forest. In the forest, there were
lots of trees and plants that he had never seen before. He also saw many kinds
of animal that watched him carefully. He thought, “I must find the block bear
as fast as I can!” On the fifth hunting day, he finally found a bear footprint.
He took his knife out and made it sharp. He followed the footprint then he
found a cave where the bear lived, he walked in…. Smith was scared but he
needed to be brave to hunt the bear. He walked slowly and quietly…. Suddenly, a
big bear started running very quickly to him. “Ahhh!!” Smith screamed. As the
bear came close to him, he raised his knife and stabbed into the bear’s body.
Luckily, the bear fell down. So, Smith had won. After that, he was surprised
and happy that he caught a bear when he went back to the village with the bear,
everyone cheered for him and he was very proud, he was a hero. Who wants to be
the next hero? The forest is waiting for you!
